The Egyptian Association for Community Participation Enhancement has organized a Regional Conference “Women and the Democratic Changes in the Arab Countries” in which women rights activists from Algeria, Jordon, Yemen, Morocco, and Lebanon participated. The conference aimed at exchanging experience within the different feminist movements experiences in relation to the changes in the political movements in the in these countries and the Arab Region as a whole, and choosing the best strategies for the coming period.
More than 100 associations and institutions have participated in the conference from all of the governorates of Egypt and a number of Human Rights Activists from both genders; the main recommendations are as follows:
• Recruiting young figures to the feminist movement
• Documenting the successful feminist experiences locally, regionally, and internationally,
• Re-enforcing the communicating methods on the national, regional, and international levels taking into consideration the previous experiences to overcome the negativities.
• Investing in women’s participation in revolutionary experiences for the integration of women in the process of democratic transformation.
• Plan for the media appearance to present the demands and visions of women in the democratic change.
• Use of new communication tools to integrate women’s demands within the demands of democratic change.
The conference was convened in Safir Hotel in Dokki, Cairo from the 31st of March to the 1st of April 2011 for two full days.
